Aynor High Continues Project Graduation Tradition

Aynor High School graduated 158 seniors last night (Thursday, June 5, 2014). The school gymnasium was standing room only as family, friends, teachers, administration, and special guests filed in to pay tribute and honor the Class of 2014. And after the big event in the gymnasium, most all of the graduates participated in another traditional event surrounding graduation: the graduating seniors, faculty, and staff loaded buses and participated in "Project Graduation." The event dates back for decades at Aynor High and is intended to keep the graduates safe and allow them to have fun one last time before departing their high school careers. The students participate in all night events in Myrtle Beach and end back up at the school the next morning. You can read more about Project Graduation by visiting The Sun News. Click HERE. GO BIG BLUE, and congratulations to the Class of 2014.

School Board Forgives All But Two Days Missed During Ice Storms

The Horry County School Board of Education voted unanimously to forgive all but two instructional days missed during recent winter ice storms. Last week, Governor Nikki Haley signed a resolution allowing local school boards to waive up to five days missed due to inclement weather, yet requires districts to use designated make-up days first. Schools in the Aynor and Green Sea Floyds attendance areas missed a total of seven days, while all other attendance areas missed six days. February 17 was a make-up day for all schools. March 28 is a second make-day for schools, except for Daisy Elementary School. As the District’s only year-round school, Daisy’s second make-up day is April 9.

Teachers and staff who were unable to work during the storms will make up missed days at the end of the school year, providing new opportunities for staff development.
