AHS Celebrates Black History Month

The Black History Program for Aynor High School was held on Friday, February 17th, 2012 at 1:00 and 2:00 pm.
The committee was headed by Miss Kimberley Myers and Ms. Lenetta J. Southern. The theme of the program was
"A Timeline Through History."  Performances were given by student presenters representing great African Americans, such as Dr. Ben Carson, the songstress, Billie Holiday and astronaut Dr. Mae C. Jemison, just to name a few. Ms. Linda Samuels and her family performed two moving gospel songs. Members of the District Office and the community were invited to the program. Miss Myers and Ms. Southern would like to thank the contributors/servers for the Heritage Luncheon. Also, we they would like to thank the administration, Mr. Mendez, Mrs. Ward, the participants and their parents for helping to make our program a success.

Cultures Abound At AHS

Over the past few weeks, the Human Geography AP (Advanced Placement) class at AHS has been hard at work learning about various cultures throughout the world. The students were assigned a project in which they had to establish their own cultures. The class really decided to take their creativity to the next level and came up with some brilliant projects that showed great effort and a vivid imagination. The students were asked to present the following from their culture: religion, architecture, sports, forms of entertainment, clothing, food, language, music and the culture itself. Each group had a unique and different culture that portrayed their understanding of the assignment. The student exhibits were voted on by peers, administrators and teachers. The best project winners were: Joshua Hudson, Courtney Johnson, Meaghan Morrell and William Saylor.
