The
Horry County School Board of Education voted unanimously to forgive all but two
instructional days missed during recent winter ice storms. Last week, Governor
Nikki Haley signed a resolution allowing local school boards to waive up to
five days missed due to inclement weather, yet requires districts to use
designated make-up days first. Schools in the Aynor and Green Sea Floyds
attendance areas missed a total of seven days, while all other attendance areas
missed six days. February 17 was a make-up day for all schools. March 28 is a
second make-day for schools, except for Daisy Elementary School. As the
District’s only year-round school, Daisy’s second make-up day is April 9.
Teachers
and staff who were unable to work during the storms will make up missed days at
the end of the school year, providing new opportunities for staff development.
