AHS Students Take HSAP

Aynor High School students joined with their peers across the State of South Carolina this week for state-mandated testing. The High School Assessment Program (HSAP) measures students' knowledge in the areas of writing, English language arts (ELA) and mathematics. The three-day test, which all second year high school students take, comes to a close today (Thursday, April 18). South Carolina law mandates all public school students pass an exit examination as one requirement for receiving a high school diploma. Close to 200 Aynor High students were tested. In an effort to help AHS students do their best, they were treated to breakfast each morning prior to the start of their exam and given ice cold water as a treat to help them stay focused. HSAP results are usually reported back to schools by mid-summer.

Important Points Concerning Early Dismissal Friday, April 19 for Prom Weekend

1. Students must bring a note from their parent for verification to leave school early this Friday.
2. The note must be turned in to Terry Jordan by Thursday, April 18 at noon (we will follow the same sign out procedures as usual).
3. Any  absences incurred will be considered unexcused.
4. Prom “tickets” will be given out beginning at 11:40 a.m. through 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 19 in the Commons Area (near the metal detector search area).
5. Students will also sign out of school in the same area where they pick up their prom tickets (near the metal detector search area).
6. Students must be in attendance at school until 11:40 a.m. to receive prom “tickets” (they must have the “tickets” to gain entrance at the prom).
7. Any student who leaves school without following proper sign out procedures will be addressed by administration.
8. Once students get their “tickets” and sign out, they will be given a large colorful “exit slip.” If they drive, students will be asked to place this slip in the driver’s side windshield of their vehicle. As they leave campus, this slip will be an indication to administration that they have signed out of school. The “exit slip” will also have a few prom tips and safety reminders for our students.
